Gotherington Lane Update

September 15, 2023

Following a discussion with the Highways representative for Gloucestershire North, we can confirm that the roadworks on Gotherington Lane will continue until at least September 21st, but could run until the end of the month. This is partly due to water pipes having to be re-laid, which had not been originally anticipated. We have discussed the residents concerns about the layout of the junction with Vale Road, and these issues are being taken back to the Highways Department. Any updates will be issued on this page as soon as we are made aware of them.

Community Connexions

April 25, 2023

Community Connexions are looking for volunteer drivers to enable them to help more members of our community. The charity help many local residents by providing vital transport to people. This helps people retain their independence and tackle loneliness from social and rural isolation. Connexions rely on volunteers to help deliver their services and without volunteers they wouldn’t be able to take people shopping, to visit their loved ones or to health appointments. They are in urgent need of volunteer drivers in the local area. Expenses are paid and you can give as little or as much time as you have. Some volunteers give a few hours a week, others are nearer full time. Interested? To find out more please look at https://communityconnexions.org.uk/volunteer email info@communityconnexions.org.uk or call 0345 6805029.

Browning Tree

March 27, 2023

It is with regret that we have to announce that the Browning Tree located at the junction of Station Road and School Road is scheduled to be felled on March 27th and 28th. This horse chestnut tree was gifted to the Parish by Mr. James Browning, a publican from Cheltenham, who used to spend his leisure hours at the Kings Head. The tree originally stood on the village green outside the Kings Head pub, but was relocated after the First World War, when the war memorial was erected (this too, was subsequently relocated to its current position at the top of ChurchRoad). A metal framed wooden seat wasplaced around the tree and this has now been relocated to the Parish Gardens, where the seats have been replaced using old pews from St. Michaels and All Angels Church. Unfortunately, the tree now has significant die-back in the crown and some disease in the trunk and as such, poses a risk to safety given its close proximity to overheadwires, passing traffic and near-by properties.‍
