Grass Cutting Update July 2025

July 1, 2025

The Parish Council has been receiving an increasing number of enquiries concerning the lack of grass cutting taking place on the verges around the village. These verges are the responsibility of Gloucestershire County Council (GCC), however, local residents are being told that they are the responsibility of the Parish Council. THIS IS NOT TRUE. The map on the GCC website has also been changed to show that the Parish Council are now responsible for cutting the verges but this is not the case. At no time has the Parish Council been contacted or asked to undertake this responsibility, and it is not something that can be taken on without time to prepare, both in terms of contractors and financing this additional work. Numerous attempts to meet and discuss this with GCC officers have proved fruitless, and even a meeting with the County Councillor has failed to move this matter along. The Council will continue to pursue this matter and further updates will be made when further information is available. In themeantime, if you wish to report any particular issues, please do so on the FixMy Street part of the County Council’s website, and contact your countycouncilors, Councillors Alex Hegenbarth and Richard Stanley. Their email addresses are alex.hegenbarth@gloucestershire.gov.uk and richard.stanley@gloucestershire.gov.uk ‍

Grass Cutting In Bishop's Cleeve 2025

January 9, 2025

On December 20th, the Parish Council was informed that Gloucestershire County Council (GCC) has decided to cease grass cutting arrangements with Tewkesbury Borough Council (TBC) and concentrate on increasing the biodiversity of their land, cutting grass less frequently and carrying out some limited wildflower sowing. According to the Borough Council, discussions with the County Council have been taking place throughout 2024 – however, at no point has Bishop’s Cleeve Parish Council been informed of, or included in, these discussions – we have merely been informed of the final outcome. As a result, the Parish Council has received this information without forewarning and with insufficient detail for the Council to be able to consider the implications to the parish. In order to be able to better understand the consequences, we have contacted Gloucestershire County Council and requested details of the areas which will no longer be cut. When we receive any further information we will share this.
