Recycling and waste collections over Christmas and New Year

For residents living in Tewkesbury Borough there’s one less thing toremember at Christmas this year - as waste and recycling collections will stay the same over the festive period.

Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day all fall on a weekend and the council’s collection crews will be emptying bins on the festive bankholidays, so please put your bin out on its usual collection day.

Garden waste collections, however, will be suspended for the weeks beginning Monday, 27 December and Monday, 3 January to allow crews to deal with the extra waste and recycling that is generated over the Christmas period.

Residents are encouraged to check collection dates using the council’s handy online collection calendar.

Lead member for clean and green environment, Councillor Jim Mason, said: “Most of us are left with a huge amount of waste to dispose of overChristmas, from piles of wrapping paper to leftover food, but don't worry -it's easy to deal with. Use your blue bins and food caddies to recycle as much as possible, and if you’re not sure if something can be sent for recycling, you'll find all the information you need on our website.

"Our collection crews always do a superb job, and over this Christmas period they will be working on the designated bank holiday days, sowe owe them extra special thanks this year.”
